the state of Oregon just enacted a hands free devices only law since January 1st. I'm guessing the reason that there is no noticeable difference in accident rates is because nearly everyone ignores the law, I see just as many people driving with the phone shoved up in their face as before. I don't see how there could be any significant change in the accident rate unless people actually change their (shitty) driving habits.... --- On Fri, 1/29/10, eoin mcnulty-goodwin <eoinmcnultygoodwin@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: > From: eoin mcnulty-goodwin <eoinmcnultygoodwin@xxxxxxxxx> > Subject: Re: [messengers] Cell Phone Bans Don't Decrease Accidents, Study Says. > To: "Chip Atkins" <pibbys@xxxxxxx> > Cc: messengers@xxxxxxxxx > Date: Friday, January 29, 2010, 5:31 PM > yeah right..... > conducted by HIGHWAY Loss Data Institute, an 'insurance > industry group'.... > so basically accidents on highways involving insurance > claims have not > decreased since a ban on hand-held 'devices' (a.k.a. > 'telephones') usage > while propelling a tonne of mental around the place....... > YEAH.....tell me knees, tell me elbows, tell me > knuckles......actually while > yer at it, tell me bollix................... > actually, even if they did study accidents in urban centres > of minor > 'financial significance' to the insurance industry they'd > find little > difference (in dublin anyway).... > in order for laws to have quantifiable effect, they kinda > have to be > enforced............. > until you can manage that, there are people gettin hurt out > there by > inconsiderate ass-holes without the time to conentrate on > what they're > doing................. > aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh ;) > peace out > > On Fri, Jan 29, 2010 at 5:35 PM, Chip Atkins <pibbys@xxxxxxx> > wrote: > > > This can only mean one thing: Reduce Accidents? > Motor Vehicle Ban! > > > > http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=123084040 > > > > Pibby's Bicycle Repair > > 731 W.
